GloCal Nutrition (Global issues in Local context) is a project that aims to improve the nutrition and health of mothers, children and families around the world through educational videos. See the GloCal Nutrition Introduction video here.

The Videos

The GloCal-videos are available in the following languages: English (Africa), French, Swahili, Portuguese, Amharic Luganda (Uganda), Jopadhola (Uganda), Chichewa (Malawi), Yao, Wolof (Senegal) and Serer (Senegal).

Currently the GloCal Nutrition videoset includes 64 videos (list below) covering the areas of pregnancy, breastfeeding, complementary feeding, childcare, health and disease and nutrition and kitchen gardening.

All videos are based on WHO guidelines and thus fall in line with government policies.

The videos are good and timely. They teach us what we didn’t know. The content is detailed and clear.Mother, Kenya

The GloCal Nutrition videos use local families as actors. The foods featured are local and easily found in the target areas. Through voiceover, the language can easily be altered to suit any local language. The GloCal videos are suitable even for the illiterate.

The mothers concentrate and are happy about the videos. They understand the teaching in the videos clearly.Healthcare Worker, Kenya

The videos can be distributed through TVs in health care centers and other public places, as well as local TV channels. Mothers who have smart phones can download the GloCalMom application that includes growth charts, vaccination cards etc. in addition to the videos. There is also an application to help healthcare workers in their work.

The aim is to produce a set of GloCal videos for each region of the world to save as many poorly nourished children as possible. In Kenya, where the preliminary work has been carried out, the project has been received with enormous interest both at the Ministry and grass root levels.

The videos have standardized what the healthcare workers teach the mothers.Healthcare Worker, Kenya
